What should I stock?
Hello everyone,
I have had freshwater tanks various sizes for years now, my friend is giving me his 125 gallon tank. I plan to go FOWLR - low stock. I don't want to spend too much time on the tank ... but I have enough time to baby a low stock FOWLR system and learn as I go. Let's keep it simple. 125g (low stock)... what would you stock and how would you introduce the stock in my current situation. Looking for ideas. Regards Jason |

Do you want predatory fish or peaceful fish?

Before you add anything to the tank, read through all the stickies at the top of this forum, especially the QT thread.

Is there a budget here or can we spend as much as your money as we want?

Definitely check out the Fish Only/Aggressive section here on RC.
That said, if there are any puffers that will fit in your size tank (and I believe there are...), that would absolutely be my first choice in a FOWLR! I love my cleaner shrimp in my current tank too much to risk it, but I've always wanted one...

Herbivores are the go, very easy and they feed them selves to a degree.
You just chuck in nori and muscles meat on a peg and that’s it for the days when you don’t feel like mucking around with them. For fish only, you can still add some tough corals like acans, zoas, morphs to name a few, they all do well and can look quite nice and cover over some areas. Most tangs and surgeonfish, centropyge, pomacanthus are good, though they get quite big and one or two of the chaetodontoplus angles maybe, some of them remain smallish. Just keep your waters stable on all levels, especially temp and you will do well. For those that are not really experienced there is always nitra guard titanium bio cubes to help out. |

Like others have said, you have to decide on what type of fish you want first: community or aggressive.
Then we can help.

Midas blennies are very fun to watch and have great personalities. Their sperpent-like motion is very unique. You can definitely add a very nice XL one in that size tank.
