Need skimmer and aquac remora advice asap please.

Looking to purchase a hob skimmer for my 35g. I'm on a tight budget so $100 is my cap. I'd really like to get something asap as I'll be leaving for a few days here soon and will have someone watching my tank and would rather not have them do a water change for me. The tank currently has a aquaticlife 115(way way to small for this setup IMO)

So I've come across a aquac remora with surface skimmer box running on a mj1200... $85 to my door... What's your views on this setup? I've read the good the bad and the ugly regarding it, but wanted more first hand from those who have run it or are currently running it, and particularly with the surface skimmer box. Seems like a good price, I just want to make sure I'm making the right choice on my slim budget.

I have used them in the past, Remora, Pro and Urchin, honestly they are not really a great skimmer, but for a tank that small they will work. You won't find a better skimmer for that price, but it isn't a great skimmer either.

Hi all,

Sorry to jump in here, but I'm also looking for a HOB skimmer. Any opinions on the Reef Octo BH90 please? People also seem to like the Aquamaxx HOB-1. I like that the BH90 can surface skim. Sorry again to hijack Ssteve as these skimmers are out of your price range.

SSteve, the Hydor slim skim is on sale at DrF+S http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...4&pcatid=23714

I had the nano on an old setup and I was pleased. I know it's not really HOB (more of SitInTank) but I had good luck with mine.

I actually think I'm going to end up biting the bullet and paying a little more fore the eshopps psk-75h or possibly the psk-100h. They now come with a sicce pump so for $140 new I think it's a steal.

Oh really? I might check those out myself. I'm torn between the Reef Octopus Bh90 and the Aquamaxx HOB-1. Now you've thrown more into the mix .

Just make sure to ignore reviews on the eshopps that were more than a few months old as they were with the garbage pumps they had before the sicce

I ordered the 100h. If it comes and doesn't have that newer pump, it's going back.

Well it's in and doing it's thing. Setup was easier than I thought. Obviously it has to break in, but I'm excited and staying positive.

Is the pump on that one quiet? Or is it kinda noisy now and will eventually quiet down after the break in period. Does it come with an air silencer?

I would call it quiet yes. Just a soft thrum. No air silencer but again, seems pretty soft to me. That new Italian pump is really nice.

Pic of cup action after one day (still breaking in).
