how to remove silicone

When I bought my tank used it had 2 holes that were covered with a piece of glass and siliconed in. I thought I was only gonna use one of them but need the second for a back up drain. It was a pain to do with the tank empty now that its full are there any easy ways to remove the piece of glass. The last time I used a nail punch and put a whole in the glass then used a razor and pliers to get it off. Now that its been full and running for the last year with a few overflows onto the carpet I need to put the backup drain in. I think doing it the way I did last time I run a risk of breaking something else. Its in the top right hand corner behind the overflow which is a box with teeth cut into it siliconed in place. Any easy ways of removing this piece of glass once I start It has to happen or I may be without my sump till I figure how to do it.
