Lately I have been using Blue Life Safety Stop: http://www.bluelifeusa.com/safety/ before I place my fish in quarantine, but dipping is not a good substitute of a quarantine tank, many diseases and pests will live through a simple dip.

I would not buy the fish from that store if you get a bad feeling or they don't look healthy. There was a LFS that I would buy from because they were cheap. I would always get ich from that store. I finally grew a brain and quite buying from them. I have done freshwater dips. They can work but are very hard on the fish. Most wont survive the dip. Too much of a shock. Also when you the dip water temp ph and all other parameters need to be the same as the tank, just no salinity. To be completely effective the dip has to be for 5-10 min.

We've had the same experience with one of our LFS. Three fish from them, one didn't make it and two that ended up with ich. We will not be purchasing anymore from them! If you don't have access to another LFS, I would stick with ordering online. The shipping stinks, but at least there are some great vendors.

Dip all new arrivals in a separate tank for 8 weeks.
