Uv sterilizer

Can you have one that's too big?
I bought a used set up 75 gallon with 10/15 gallon sump. And it came with a huge uv starilizer it says max pond size 2,360 gal. The pictures on the side do show like fish tank and pond

It's a emperor smart uv lite 2225b 25watt
Is it safe to use on the tank? Or is it too big

Set up for fish and corals
75 gallon,
Sump
Skimmer not sure make or model
10k white lights
3 19 watt Panoramic pro led reef lights

I ran a pond sterilizer on my 75 gallon for about five years. not possible to oversize. whether or not you should use one on a reef is the subject of no less than five thousand threads on the search button though, I remember some mean ole argument threads from 02 and current on that subject lol

me, id use them. to heck with plankton, if it was helping us we wouldnt have to feed the tank.

The unit that came with your used system is rated for 90 gallons. I think you would be fine with the unit. More importantly, is the bulb any good.

UV lamps are down to about 70% after 9000 hours and drop off faster after that. You might get two years if your way undersized. Your not undersized, and your lamp is unknown. Get a new lamp.

If you are going to run a UV, make sure that you keep the quartz sleeve clean (it can gum up quickly from calcium deposits) and be diligent about regularly replacing the bulb (I do it every 6 months).

This. UV is an excellent water clarifier (I use it outside on my pond) but has little to no effect on parasites.

agreed

if I ever ran one, it would be preventative against cyano and dinos and free floating algae stages which they can work great on.

Ya not sure how old the bulb is. The guys tank was very nasty and I don't know how his fish survived. One of the heaters he gave me fell apart releasing chemicals and black stuff in my sump and has damaged or even killed some of my corals ( hoping they come back)and stressed my anemones very hard

His SG was 1.029
