Dsa 105 update

So I finally go water in this baby and rocks are setup, kinda. I only need to throw the sand in tank which I will do later today and hopefully start cycling it. Speaking of cycling my tank all the rock in there is dry rock, there nothing to die off. Do I just throw a shrimp in the tank? I also heard of putting live bacteria they sell in bottles?

While tank is cycling do I leave skimmer on and throw in the cheto algea. Or should I hold off on both?

Sorry for all the questions guys.

all i would do to start the cycle would be ghost feed the tank. maybe for 2 or 3 days, drop some flake food in there and that will start the cycle. thats how ive always done my tanks...

you can leave the skimmer on, it will break-in while the tank is cycling...

i would wait till week 2 or 3 for the chaeto. once your algae bloom and diatoms start dying off, the chaeto would grab the nutrients out of the water...
