Quiet Return Pump

I'm setting up a 54 corner tank in the next couple of weeks, and I'm looking for suggestions for a quiet return pump.

The previous owner used a Rio 2500 pump for a return, and actually included a brand new in the box Rio 2500 with the setup. I'm planning on using that new pump for my return, but if there are better more quiet options I would be interested in hearing about them.

Thanks,

Steve

I just bought and started using a sicce syncra pump and it is silent. Quietest pump I have ever used.

I concur. I switched to a Sicce Syncra about a year ago. Previously was using a Mag 7. Amazing difference. Made the Mag 7 sound like a blender in comparison.

The Eheim compacts are quiet too. The 2000 should work well for you.

I have a Rio for my water changes. It has run dry several times and still works great and silent.
I have a Reef Octopus DC pump for my return . It is completely silent. You can not tell it's running unless you put your head up next to it. There are cheaper versions of the same pump around the internet. It's quieter than my Red Dragon skimmer pump.

I just set up my 90 and went with the tunze 1003.02. Very quiet, I have to have the doors open and my ear next to the sump to even hear it, very impressed so far

I'm going to give the RIO 2500 a shot and see how it does, if it's too noisy I'll make a swap out to one of the ones recommended here.

Thanks,

Steve

I could see using the Rio because you already have it but I'd suggest keeping the Rio as a back-up and getting a more reliable pump.

Rios are not quiet and are definitely not reliable. Good luck

I've used Rio pumps for many years and never had a failure ever, and they are always silent.
But with that being said, I've never used one as a return pump..........so time may tell.

Yeah, I use a Rio to mix my salt water too. As a return pump? Much better options.

Tunzes are great. I just replaced all my older Eheims with the silence series, they make no noise and hardly use any electricity as well.

I put a couple Sicce on my Ebay watch list, and an Eheim too.

If the Rio 2500 doesn't work out, I'm make a move and get one of them.
