What's wrong with my biocube hood?

So last friday i thought a bulb burnt out, so i just got replacements in the mail. However, the white light i thought blew out, in fact was not. There was a little bit of white light, as well as a dash of red, and a burning smell. I switched bulbs, and that didnt do anything, and neither did switching the ballasts. Does anyone know what is wrong? Is it just time to upgrade the lighting?

Your ballast has gone bad. Both of mine went at the same time. If you are handy with electronics, you can look up the Nanocustoms build it yourself ballast kit, which is what I did, or you will have to order replacements. You might also consider upgrading to the LED kit.

Well I don't think it's the ballast, because when i switch them, it does nothing, and it's just the same result-no light coming through.

Now is the perfect time to upgrade to a Rapidled retrofit kit! Trust me it is wayy worth it never have to change them, last longer, produce less heat which also means less evaporation/ top off water needed and they are just great! If you need more info I upgraded mine last year and they are awesome!

I actually just placed an order with Steve's LEDs, just seemed and sounded a little more foolproof, but I guess I also have a buddy who is also an electrician, so if I need any help, I can fall back on him. Now i cant wait to get the kit
