Amphipods are the preferred live food of my fish.
You don't want crabs or meat eating snails that will feed on the copepods and amphipods living in your refugium.

This. In my case, on both my tanks, I also have a cryptic zone with all sort of filter feeders.

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

The ad for reef to go says their best seller 250 pods for $9.99 or buy 500 and get one free which would be 1000 pods for I believe it was $38 and some change. Call me stupid but am I missing the get one free?

If you buy 1,000 you get another 1,000 free, I think the same is true for 500.
2,000 for $55 is not bad.
Unless your tank is 10 gallons you will want to get at least 1,000.

If you have live rock in your tank, your sump/fuge will eventually get populated with various pods naturally. give it time. If you want to seed, I dont see the need in buying 2000 pods that they can really count, and they will breed quickly once in your tank anyway.

You are like 2,500 miles away.
Did you get overnight shipping?

A cryptic zone is an area with no (or very low) circulation and very low levels of oxygen whare anaerobic bacteria (the ones that convert nitrates to nitrous oxide) live.

They should only use overnight shipping for shipping live animals. If they didnt make that mandatory it is on them.

I don't think aptasia could survive in a cryptic (or benthic) zone.
The oxygen level is too low.

Yep, that's a refugium.
Nice pic.

Do most crab species eat copepods? Hermit crabs? I didn't think they were fast enough or even capable of catching them. What about shrimps?

Crabs and shrimp will eat anything they can catch and are quicker than you might think.
Major scavengers/predators.
