Rock Flower Anemone - Any Tips on Care? Really want to Breed / Spawn them Can I mix t
just got two sweet Rock Flower Anemones from a Frag Swap.
I have always wanted them because they are so beautiful and also because they are so hard to get. And for those of you that have not seen one you absolutly have to see them in person as the pictures on the internet do them no justice. I bought one Red and one Green one. Any Tips on Care would greatly be appreciated. Also, I really really want to Breed / Spawn them. What conditions are ideal for that? Lastly, can I mix them with other Sea Anemones? I was thinking about Condylactis since they are both found in Florida. But I hear that Rock Flowers have a Weak Sting while Condy's have a Strong Sting. If I did this would I have to worry about the Condy's (Or other Anemones) Stinging them to Death? The Rock Flowers seem to stay put but when I had Condy's in the Past they were all over the place moving around. Thanks. |

Did you get your water parameters under control from last week?

I test twice a day and usually dose Alkalinity Buffer once a Day if it is under 7 The Rock Anemone's are in another Aquarium. My other 3 Aquariums are all good. It is just the one that I am having problems with. Thanks for asking. |

First, I would like to say that I have never bred flower anemones. I do own one, but I have never bred them.
However, if you want to breed them, I would probably keep them in a separate tank. Might just make things a little easier. My flower nem has spawned many times. I got it to spawn by feeding it and then changing the salinity. It first spawned when I put it in my system for the first time. I believe it went from an sg of 1.024 to 1.026. That, and being in a new system probably induced a stress reaction leading to spawning. Every time it has spawned afterwards has been a few days after I fed it a piece of jumbo shrimp and following a water change where the salinity changes a bit. I keep the tank between 1.024 and 1.026 sg....the salinity swings happen because I guesstimate how much salt to mix in my change water. Sometimes I'm spot on...sometimes I go over or under. It seems to be that the nem responds to these changes by spawning, especially when it's been well-fed. Good luck. |

I've been keeping rock and condy nems together for some time now without any issue, I've also had a bta with them. They sit right next to or on top of each other all the time and as far as I can tell they don't bother each other at all.
As far as breeding them, I've always wanted to as well but never had it happen, and I have 5 in the same tank. Here's some condy/rock shots Heres a pretty good article to get you started if you haven't read it already http://www.reef2rainforest.com/2012/...n-a-new-light/ |

You need to read the September/October 2012 issue of Coral Magazine. Dick Perrin at Tropicorium has been successfully breeding them.

You use to be able to get them pretty cheap. One of my white ones cost $12. Recently due to their popularity prices have gone up. I paid $40 for my red ones and about $30 for a green on. Someone at the last swap was selling some for $100 they were nice but not that nice.
I have several anemones with mine without issue. They just all need their own space. I have bubble tips, maxi minis, and tube anemones without issue. I'm thinking of adding a sebae or long tentacle soon. |

Very nice!

Got about 7 rock anemonies in my sand bed. They hardly move and if they do, its like 2" away. All different colors. They are about 5-7" when fully opened. Never saw any split ar spawn yet. have them over 16 mths. They are very nice. Wish I could get those reall pretty multicolor ones like the one on ebay though.

Just received a red and green one from www.reeftopia.com. Their prices and service are great.....direct from the diver.
