RIP my favorite fish...

Yesterday morning, while my gf was feeding the fish, she noticed a certain fish was a no-show, one who's always out. She then spotted him on the sand-bed in a "cave" constructed by a rock and she yelled for me to come over. He looked to be dead and my gf shed a tear, I was pretty upset so I grabbed my feeding tongs and went to grab him before the CUC got to him... He shot out of the hole and swam back up to one of his normal perches on the rock-work! My gf and I both had a sigh of relief, we then attempted to give him some flakes on the feeding tongs but he didn't seem interested which is incredibly weird for him as he normally more-or-less jumps onto the tongs and eats the flakes directly off.
He was acting kind of strange, not as active as normal and mostly just sitting on a perch on the rock work, not swimming around actively like normal... A few hours later he disappeared again... I kind of knew what happened as it explained his odd behavior, he was just getting old... These fishes, when equated to a human life-span, age at about a year per week... It was then hours later I spotted something that could be him hiding on the sand-bed in another rock-made cave, but this time I was able to pick him up and sure enough he had passed.

We've only had him for about 8 months and I'm sure he was likely 5-6 months old when we purchased him but unfortunately, a Neon Cleaner Goby only lives 1-2 years on average, so I suppose it was just his time
All of my other fish are healthy but the tank just feels empty without him, even though he was by FAR my smallest fish, being 1-1.5" in total length, he easily had the biggest personality in the tank. I honestly never thought I could be so attached to a fish.

RIP lil' buddy.

I'm likely going to get another one as, again, these fish are just incredible and full of personality... I hope my Flame Angel allows a new one into the tank though.

So sorry for your loss.
Isn't it incredible how attached you can get to fish?!
