Pump Recommendation
I have a 65 gal tank with a 20 sump I am trying to get up and running. I have done research and have narrowed it down to 2 return pumps. The Sicce Syncra 3.0 or the Reef Octopus Diablo 3500. I will have approx. 5 feet of head not counting connections. I was shooting for about 300 to 400 gph through the sump but I guess it could be more....don't really care as long as I don't have bubbles or noise. I am leaning towards the diablo IF you think the flow could be turned down enough to fit my needs.

The sicce is nice. I own the 3.0 and use it on my 40 breeder w/ 40 sump. I had to dial it back quite a bit, it moves a good amount of water! I don't have any experience with the diablo 3500, but to have an rlss 6000 which is a controllable dc pump. I honestly find the controller a bit gimmicky. I like the power savings of the dc pump, but the controller is a waste of space and extra wires IMO.

Mag 7? Cheaper than those two pumps and will move just as much water.

I love my Mags but I'll go with a Sicce if my pump ever dies. The Sicce is amazing for silent operation. Mag drives are great inexpensive pumps and if you want reliability, then look no further. As far as silent operation however, Mag drives lack something to be desired in that department.

In my experience you can hear the smaller mags, but I have had a 12 and a 9 and both are quiet.

similar to what others have said, i have a mag 7 running the return on my 75 gallon and have been quite happy with it.
that being said, the RO Diablo looks to be a DC pump? that could be pretty awesome for fine tuning the water flow.

I agree with thegrun, if your looking for quiet, nothing quieter than an Eheim, they don't more nearly as much water as one of similar price, but are the quietest return I've every used, don't heat up as much and are reliable with regular maintenance.

You could probably never convince me to use anything but an eheim after my many years of using them and owning many for various tanks.
Lately I hear good things about the diablo, and tunze has always been pretty good. You could also probably never convince me to use a mag again after many of those as well!
