Is the base of it a little hard curly q? It's hard to tell from the pic, but I'd guess vermitid snail if it has a hard base. They spit out a kind of mucus web to pick up food, and build little spiral tubes to live in. If it doesn't have a hard base it might just be a bit of hair algae.

It's a vermitid snail who decided to create his home/housing on that astrea snail's shell and is spewing his mucus. Lots of my astreas have a vermitid tagging a ride on their shell.
If it's hard it's a vermitid, if it wipes off it's cyano or algae. |
