Refugium question

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge but...

Substrate or miracle mud?
What type of plant life?
Mangroves?
Lighting?

Using volume calculations, my 'fuge is approx 6 gallons. It's residing in the center section of a 20g high sump to a 75g tank. Not a lot of bio load as of now since it's newly cycled...just a couple damsels, 5 snails and 2 leathers.

I see tons of refugiums on here and google search leads to millions of conflicting thoughts about it.

Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thx! :0)

I only put cheato in my fuge, sand and other stuff just traps ditrus that makes it harder to clean. As for lighting, just a cheap 65k bulb will work.

Really? I was totally under the impression that it was like a "baby" tank under the tank for algae and pods to grow. Hmmm
Interesting. Thanks for that insight.

Pods will grow within the cheato, some people do use lr rubble, sand ect, i just find it more of a pain to clean. And unless your sand in the fuge is really deep it dont do much of any filtering.

Sweet. I have a fair amount of rubble to toss in there but I'll stay away from the sand if it's not worth it. I'm assuming the light can be bought at Home Depot with a clamp on light fixture.

Yes that's the same light setup I and many others use.

I have chaeto rocks and mangroves in my refugium. Seems to work for me

add one of these 6500k bulbs into that clamp on fixture and your set.
