How long does it take ammonium to ....
change to ammonia after opening the bag on a shipped fish?
The reason I ask, is today I received a fish that had been in the shipping bag for approximately 16 hours. I had asked for the shipping salinity and had my QT matched. Opened the bag and did a quick salinity check and since it was a perfect match transferred the fish to the QT. Then immediately checked the shipping water for ammonia just to see and got 2!

It happens when the air hits the water so right away after opening the bag...

The 30 minutes grace period is your window to get the fish out undamaged. But I prefer the method you used.
