My CUC is trying to escape. Is that normal?

I got my CUC today and it seems the cerith snails are trying to escape. I have them in a QT that is 30 gal but has 18 gal of water in it.

Almost all the ceriths are 6 inches out of the water. Is that normal / OK?

I wasn't going to QT them, but my DT has high nitrate (~40) and I didn't want to risk it until I can do an 80% WC this weekend. I did put a couple pieces of LR in the QT for them to nibble on.

Thanks!

Yep happens all the time. I actually found a desiccated one in one of my kids lego bins one time; so they will actually crawl out of the tank and over the side.

Okay, thanks! One good thing is that they sure are active. They will love the algae in the DT once I get them over there. I got them from reef cleaners.org and they all seem to have made the trip.

One more question since I started this thread: what is the best way moving them to the DT if they are on the glass? Can I just pull them off or will they come out of their shell?

Sorry for the silly question, I'm clearly very new to this. Thanks!

To answer your question I just gently twist them till they let go. I am not sure if that is a good way or not, but I have not killed one yet.

same here, pull them off gently, slowly increasing the pull until they release....my giant turbo is probably the only one that would require real yanking if I ever had to get him off glass.

My cerith and nerites also go above water level, when it is not topped off anyway, and they just go back down by themselves.
