Question Want to start a QT tank

So I want to start using a QT tank. I have had my DT a few months but keep reading about QT tanks and how important they're.

I am going to buy a 10g or 20g tank, with heater, hang on filter, light, and air Stone to agitate water.

I plan on running this continually since I will most likely keep adding a fish one to my DT. My question is if I take some LR from my DT sump can I put this in my QT to use as my filter and will it then not need to cycle?

Basically if I put all the stuff together tomorrow with the LR would it be ready for a single fish to start a QT process?

Thank you in advance! This forum has been a lifesaver in my new adventure in this hobby!

Thank you I read your post multiple times! :-p What if I take out the carbon filter like you suggested and substitute it with some filter floss I have had running in my tank for three months. This way the filter floss in the hang on filter should be seeded. Then use PVC pipes for hiding.

Yes that is what we do. carbon filter will take out any treatment medications so we usually toss them out and replace them with filter floss or ceramic rings which will harbor bacteria.
If you have filter floss in your DT for last 3 months it should be seeded enough to introduce it to qt and it should give u instant cycle. But just keep checking ammonia in case.
Pvc fittings are good for fish to hide behind.
