Quarantine Questions

So I know there is a lot of discussion on this topic, and I respect all opinions. I'm in the process of setting up my first tank, a 180g DT with a 75g sump (includes refugium). I've decided I to start quarantining everything from day 1 with the hope of preventing disease/pests from ever entering my system. My question is for quarantining live rock, can I do a batch in one quarantine tank, or do I have to do one piece at a time? A majority of my rock is dry rock, but I'm going to use a few pieces of live rock to seed everything.

Similarly, do you quarantine 1 fish at a time, or can I do multiple at once in the same tank?

Thanks, ZB

why do u need to qt dry rock? dry is is dead rock that has nothing on it that would cause any issues, dry rock generally have phosphates and people give them acid baths or cure them in big buckets by running gfo or other remedies.
for step by step info on QT follow this link.

do a batch at a time. raise the LR off the tank floor with egg crate, put a piece of food (silverside, pellet, whatever you can get and remove before the water fouls) in the tank overnight on the tank floor. Ideally the pests will come out and you can remove them.

Dont forget that not everything that will come out is a pest. And dont nuke your rock with medications.
http://www.lionfishlair.com/hitchhiker/hitchhiker.shtml is a good start.

you dont need to qt dry rock, just be sure it is cured before adding it to a cycled tank. dry rock is known to leach different nutrients, like phosphate in particular, which can take a LONG time to go away, or a short time.

Not QT dry rock, just the live rock for seeding.

Idk how you would QT the live rock. Theres a million different things on it and you will never see them.

I would set up your tank with it, keep it fishless throughout your cycle. At least 4 weeks, then once your cycled your good to go. Any parasites that could come in on it that need a coral or fish host will have died off through that time.

Good for you to set up QT's from the start. Wish I did that it would have made for a much more fun and less stressful first year in the hobby, and would have saved me a lot of money!

if you would qt LR then do it in small batches so you can observe the rock and make sure of the hitchikers. link provided above should guide you in i.d'ing pest from pets.

What about QT'ing fish? Can you do more than one at time or should it be only one?
