Cyano bacteria

I know this is considered a nuisance by most, but does anyone leave it in their systems? I've recently got some growing and it has covered a smallish piece of live rock rubble and gave it a nice deep red color. Is the only downside to keeping it that it can possibly take over tank if not kept in check?

I don't know why anyone would keep that in their tank. I would say that is a major downside if it took over the tank. It ends up looking nasty and can irritate corals if you have some.

I have two refugiums, a 20 long and a 10 gallon.
The 10 gallon tank grows a blanket of red cyano, but it does not grow anywhere else in my system. The 10 gallon refugium has very little turnover, maybe 3-4 times per hour. The 20 long has the exact same water and lighting but gets 7-8 times per hour turnover and not a spec of red cyano grows in it. Both have powerheads for circulation within them.
The red cyano does not impede the growth of the caulerpa prolifera.

I do not run reactors, but I do dose vinegar with my kalkwasser.

I've always let Cyrano grow in my fuge. It is extremely efficient at stripping nutrients from the water and does a number of other good things for the water like even detoxifying metals.

The trick is to keep the conditions so favorable in that one spot that it all grows there and starves out any trying to grow in the tank. That's why I like the fuge. I can keep the flow low and the lights hot.

You're gonna have to do something about it. I am battling cyano now. Its all over my sand, rock glass...its real sticky and can seal off your sub straight. Coralline is much better I think.
