Red Dragon 80W pump fittings
I have searched this site and the internet and am having trouble finding a European/USA PVC adapter for a Red Dragon 80 W pump. Does anyone know how to find an adapter? I am hard plumbing the pump and these European end fittings on the pump are killing me!
Thanks! |

Never Mind - for those who need to know.
Machine down the OD of a 1" PVC pipe for the 32 mm pvc glue slip union, and machine down the OD of a 1-1/2" PVC Coupling for the 50 mm pvc glue slip union. Be careful to machine these OD's slowly and uniformly. Mine fit perfect and when glued will never leak. Here are some pics. good call on the fittings, flexpvc.com has some adapter fittings, but doesn't look like you will be needing them.
did you get the model with the 0-10 v control input? I'm thinking about switching my dart closed loop pump out for the Red dragon 80w. would be nice to be able to ramp the pump down with an apex. landy |

Yes. Don't have it up and running yet, should hopefully get it plumbed in this week. The pump looks solid, and the materials it is made of are very solid. It's replacing an Iwaki MD100. I love that pump, but its too dang loud. Wifey was complaining........gotta make her happy

All of the fittings on the RD 3 pumps that are sold in the US come with standard with a 2" inlet and 1 1/4" outlet, so there's no need to convert from metric over to standard on the unions. Great pump though, you'll love it!

I appreciate your response. Your comment about "if that's what you need to do" is odd to me. . considering the title of this thread... Do you have plans of stocking the correct imperial fittings Klaus made reference to in the previous post? Do you or Klaus have any more information on what the 0 - 10v update entails or when I will be released? thank you for your time landy |

Correction on the 1-1/2" coupling - I machined an 1-1/4" coupling, not an 1-1/2".
I looked at it with my glasses on......... |

Just started my tank up - the RD 80watt pump is totally silent, from the lowest setting to the highest setting. I am running it externally. I honestly can't believe how quiet the thing is. The brushless design must make a huge difference in the sound.
Scott - I just ordered a few more to run my GFO and carbon reactors, and also to run my closed loops and my chiller. |

I am looking at replacing my old pump with this pump for my return pump on my 180 gal dual overflow. Problem is my tank is already plumbed with 1" overflow and return is 3/4" bulkheads. I have all 1" pipe but reduced to 3/4" at the bulkheads for the return. It will be internal pump so inlet should not be a problem at 2" as it will just sit in my sump and not be plumbed to anything, but can I reduce the outlet from 1 1/4" to 1" and then to 3/4"at the bulkhead going into tank?? Will this cause a problem with the pump? Or will it work fine?
