Red face Totally Dumb Question

This is going to sound quite strange, but the more I was giving it thought, the more I questioned myself.

Do you guys leave your lights on at night?

I turn my lights off completely all night, tank is pitch black. I'm just now beginning to question whether this is what everyone does/what you're supposed to do LOL

I have the moon lights turn off at about 11:30 and the blue comes on at 6:30am. I though somewhere I read on this form that u can turn the lights off at night. The moon light doesn't do anything other then look nice. I could be wrong.

I think this is a debatable question. Most of us have some type of moonlighting that stays on at night. Or some will eventually dim down to black with LEDs. I go black for a few hours. But it depends on your lights also.

If you have some sort of "moon light"(blue light) it can be set with a timer to coincide with your day lights turning off.

It creates a sort of natural circadian rhythm for your aquarium inhabitants : ) Gotta be healthier

Here is an example for more info. http://current-usa.com/aquarium-led-.../lunar-lights/

I always ran a moon light. Nothing big just those stock LEDs from the old days that came with the fixtures.

But back in the day before all this fancy pants equipment, when lights were merely on and off. My tank stayed dark 8hrs a day and did fine.

There is some marine life that actually use the moon cycles to propagate the species. Not that that happens in the hobby world. My moonlights stay on for a few hours though then go completely off.

My lights are always off at night, but I have often considered this question, also. I will be watching to see what others say.

We are using one moon light that came with the old fixtures. We hard wired it in and runs 24/7 along side our one year old full spectrum LEDs.

I have my LED's ramp up and down during the day. They fade to moonlights around 11:00 and are completely off from midnight until 9:30am when they start to ramp up again.
