No Algae a Problem???

So my tank has been cycling for about 6 weeks now and I have 0 Ammonia but tons of nitrites.

I know we all try to avoid algae but im slightly concerned that I have not seen any at all. I thought I would need some type of growth for my initial CUC to live off of.

Any ideas as to when I could expect to see some algae growth ? is it possible to see non at all during my cycle?

You are not there yet! You need to wait for the cycle to complete. Nitrites will drop and nitrate will appear. Algae feeds on nitrate.

any idea what levl the nitrates typically are before algae begins to grow? roughly? im at about 10 right now..

No real number where algae will bloom and it can depend on several other things. Your nitrate will raise quite abit within the next few days or week. Diatom is not nitrate dependant, it's silica based. So, it's probably will be the first algae to spook you. If, you are looking for algae. Don't worry it will find you. Good luck.
