BG chromis get upto 3.5 inches.
1 inch per 10 gallons = 1. But you can buy younger ones and just trade them back to the store when your N/PO aren't controllable anymore! Edit: I love my chromis, they are so peaceful and get picked on by EVERYONE but they seem happy.

I believe, and don't quote me, that the 1 inch of fish per 10 gallons has to do with the nutrient export of their waste. So, it would really be a question of if you have enough rock etc. to handle their waste.
P.S. I have two, they don't school, but they are still friendly and peaceful. (Had 3 the big one drove it down the drain into the filter socks...)

The 1inch per gallon is mostly a freshwater rule and is kinds outdated. Its more up to which your fish will get along and not compete for food sources. I think that 3 chromis would be fine as long as you didn't add much more bio-load. I am by no means a fish communicability expert so take my advise with a grain of salt.
Good luck! |

They will winnow their way down to one over time. They are pretty peaceful towards each other at first but once they decide that they want the holes in the rocks that the other sleeps in, they will be killed after lights out. You will likely never actually see the aggression but it will be there. Also the one inch per 10 gallon rule hase no bearing in saltwater. A 3 inch tang puts off a lot more of a bioload than a three inch blenny.

First of, as every one else has stated the is no (x) inch per (x) gallon rule. If that were the case, a hippo tang would be fine in a 120.
3 chromis would be fine but dont add any more fish until they start killing each other off lol. I had 3 chromis in a QT. In 2 weeks, they killed each other lol. Not one survived. |

I have 4 in a 120, but nobody else lives there. They get along fine. In a smaller tank, as already mentioned, regardless of the number you start with, you'll end up with 1. Might as well start with that number.

They will eventually attack each other. I'm down to two and the larger spends most of the day chasing the smaller guy.

In a 29 gallon tank I doubt you could keep more than one long term, they will kill each other off until one is left. I would not try multiples in any tank under 100 gallons.

I wouldn't buy any chromis right now. The fish disease forum has seen a constant stream of these fish with uronema, I have no idea why.

I wouldn't buy one. I have one currently for a month in QT. It started showing signs of uronema marinum two weeks ago.
Google or search this forum or uronema marinum before you make a decision.
