Venting fans for stand and lid enclosures?
Hi folks,
Just wondering if yall use any special fans for inside the stand and tank lid? I have a pretty good sized pump, and LEDs. The LED company told me to vent fan the lid if it gets > 90 degrees. The back is fully open. The lights are not here yet, so I do not know yet. The stand is already at 82 and I do not have the side panel on yet. |

ambient house temp in FL with AC = ~75ish. So 80-82 in stand. I would not think this is excessive with side panel on? Whole back of stand is open.

Add one of these: http://www.saltycritter.com/fans.htm
I just bought the 106cfm one, it's quieter than the other 3 and moves the most air. I'll be adding to my canopy to draw fresh air in to reduce humidity and heat with 3 radion pros on a 180. |

I picked up a 4" 12vdc fan from Radio Shack and installed it in my hood, works great and keeps the humidity down inside there.

Nice fans from Salty Critter, looks like it is a standard muffin type fan. Price not bad for 106 CFM. I believe that will be the choice for the lid, and probably the stand.
Regarding the lids, BuildMyLed told me to make sure I put an intake and exhaust fan in the lid, as a single fan makes it a convection over. Interesting concept, especially if a lid that is fully closed. Since Mine is open, I may get away with a single fan blowing from the rear into the center of the lid from the rear of the tank, and have is circle back around and out by natural flow. Just to share another thought, yesterday I replaced some bathroom exhaust fans. These would also work well in a stand, you could mount the cage on the ceiling of the stand, and use the flexible exhaust tube to plumb the heat anywhere. They make a 170CFM with 1.5 SCONES, which is so quiet, you do not know it is running, about $80. You can also get wall mount models that can mount vertically. Not sure how they would hold up in the environment however. These things are designed for FW humidity in bathrooms, but the housings to look to be galvanized. I have lids on my sump so I do not get massive salt creep down there, it also keeps my RO makeup injection to a minimum, leading to less PH loss. |
