Is this a good skimmer???

I have a sump with a space of 16 3/4" X 11" . what would be the best skimmer for that size of tank. the tank will be a heavily stocked 205 gallons (display tank volume)

i'm thinking of putting the reef octopus 5000SSS skimmer in there

http://www.reefgeek.com/filtration/p...n-skimmer.html

is this too overpowered for my tank?

Product Specifications:
- Recommended Tank Size: Up to 500 Gallon Light Bio-Load; 450 Gallon Medium Bio-Load; 400 Gallon Heavy Bio-Load
- Footprint: 13″ x 11″ x 25.0″ H
- Body Size: 10″
- Neck Size: 6″
- Recommended Sump Water Depth: 6.5-7"
- Output Size: 1.5”
- Output Height: 6.2″
- Power Consumption: 45W
- Air Output: 2,100 lph / 74 SCFH
- Water Draw: 1,800 lph / 480 GPH
- Warranty: 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty on skimmer body; 3-Year on pump

If they made a 4000sss or internal i would probably go with that but i don't think they do. i feel that the 3000sss is too underpowered. Any suggestions or experience would be great.

that might be oversized for your tank. Sometimes bigger isnt always better, if there isn't enough bioload the skimmer cant keep a good enough foam head meaning it wont be skimming. I think I would try something a bit smaller.

that worries me... i don't want it to have complications. how's the pump on the skimmer? is it even reliable? is there a different brand i could go for?

ALSO i made a mistake on my skimmer section size. I actually have more room to work with 14.5" x 16.75" - Adjustable water level 6-10" Water Level

Aquamaxx Co3, the new Vertex Omega;s that are coning out or the Bubble King 200 double cone with rd3 speed pump. RLSS skimmers aren't bad to look into either

AquaMaxx EM500 would do nicely. Also, footprint is 11x16", water level 8-10".

The Bubble Blaster pumps on the SRO models are excellent. They have a great reputation in the hobby, have a 3 year warranty, and perform very well.

Quiet? How about the gallons bioload rating? Accurate?

I have the SRO-3000int and the pump is pretty quiet. Right now I have an old maxi-jet 600 in my sump that's on it's way out and it's way louder than the skimmer. That said, the output on the SRO skimmers sits fully above the water at their recommended depth and is quite loud and makes a mess from salt creep due to splashing. It's easy enough to fix with maybe $5 in parts from a hardware store and 5 minutes of time, but just something to keep in mind if you don't like to deal with that stuff. It really is a easy fix but some people don't like to do any DIY, otherwise you can buy one from the manufacturer for like $40. Once I made the output vent I was actually surprised on how quiet it is.

By heavily stocked do you mean lots of corals & smaller fish, or are you going to have a few big messy eaters?

?? Might want to look up all the problems they have had. Rust, impeller, cracked housings.....

Altering the plumbing wouldn't be an issue. I don't mins tweaking things.

When I mean heavily stocked I'm talking about messy eaters
