Reef Tank Question?
I had a Reef Tank yesterday. I already cycled it. It has a fine filtration, aeration, heating and lighting.
Temperature is 25 degrees celsius, PH 8.3-8.4, SG 1.023-1.024. Tank Size is 36x12x12 in. or 100x30x30 cms. Substrate is Coral Sand. Rocks are coral sand, Tufa Rocks and 6 Artificial Corals. I have some algae in here(Caulerpa sertularioides). I have fishes in there: 6 common clownfish,1 Coral Beauty,1 Orange Starfish,3 Malu Anemone,6 Cleaner Shrimps,1 Sea Apple and 1 Mandarinfish. Questions: 1.Are my temperature, PH and specific gravity correct? 2.How many gallons is my tank? 3.Is my substrate fine? 4.Are my rocks good? 5.What is the common name of my algae? 6.Is my algae good for a reef tank? 7.Am I overstocking my Reef Tank with fish? 8.Can I still add Dwarf Angelfish? Please answer my questions completely. Thanks to all who answer. CC Update : I actually already had a set-up months ago( maybe, 6 months?). I just added the fish. Update 2: I already surpassed the "Patience Time". |

1. Your temperature and pH are fine but SG seems a bit low. Most people keep their reefs as close to natural seawater (1.0255 SG) as possible. I'd suggest raising it a bit by topping off with saltwater instead of fresh.
2. The tank by itself holds about 22 gallons of water but given displacement of rocks, sand and what not, it might be closer to 15 gallons. If you have a sump tank, obviouslly it'll add more. 3 and 4. I'm not sure I've ever heard of coral sand or coral rock. If you mean crushed coral for the substrate and hardened coral skeletons for the rock, then you are good on both fronts. 5. Common name for it is Caulerpa. 6. Yes, it is good, though most people prefer to use Chaetomorpha (I heard it's easier to manage and less invasive). 7. Yes... way overstocking IMO. I wouldn't keep more than 3, maybe even 4 fish in a tank of that size. 8. Probably not. Aside from the issue of nutrients, Dwarf Angelfish will not get along - especially not in a tank that small. I used to keep a Coral Beauty and a Flame in a 90g and even then, there was a lot of bullying on the Coral Beauty's behalf.

Plus 1 to everything stated above
Did you add all the fish at the same time? |

4. Rocks are coral sand? 7. Way overstocked No more than 2 clowns of the same species should be in your tank. Tank is too small for the mandarin & the angel. Tank is too young and small for the anemone, what kind of lighting is it under? 8. no

You do have way to many clownfish in that tank. Two will pair up and beat on the rest.

Not exactly. They form a harem sometimes - a single female, a dominant male and the rest of them recessive males or sexless. If the female dies, the dominant male morphs into a female, then the next clown in line becomes a dominant male.

^ True, but in a tank this small and with all the other fish that are in there I doubt this will happen. The pair beating up on everything scenario is probably far more likely IMO
