Skimmer on float switch?

OK here is the scenario that played out today while I was demonstrating my sump and BA drains. When I powered off the return and skimmer all was good and happy. I powered on the return and the skimmer but should have waited for the system to regulate before turning the skimmer on. When it was on the water level in the sump was still high and caused the skimmer to overflow an excess amount of water into the cup.

Does anyone run their skimmer with a float switch so it cuts off power if the water level is too high? This is one aspect of a power outage I did not anticipate.

Yeah, I have a high water float in my sump that is connected to my Apex. When the float closes it turns off the skimmer and then delays turn on for 10 mins after float opens.

I don't have a float switch, but I have my apex set to turn of my skimmer immediately when ever my return shuts off, and to delay restarting the skimmer for 5 minutes after the return comes back on.

Yes, I added a float switch to my skimmer cup for basically the same reason but mine isn't cause by the change in water level. Some times when my skimmer is off and then started (like after a power outage) it will overflow the cup into the sump while spitting foam all over the place. I have my switch in the skimmer cup to prevent it from overflowing. It shuts the skimmer off and then I have to service it and turn it back on. If your skimmer only runs wild because of the higher water level in your sump you could use a top off type switch system switch in the sump. Float switch is on while the water level is low (normal level), shuts off when the water level rises and turns back on after the water drops back down.

I can see how this would work if you switch off the main return outlet, but does it also work if the Apex is coming back on after a systemic power failure?

Ah I am thinking I might be able to wire this into my control. Pretty much right after the switch.

Yup, anytime the return shuts off for any reason, the skimmer waits 5 mins, then comes back on, ATO waits 7 minutes.
