BIG Quandry - Help!
So my tank has been cycling for 8 weeks now.
I just got a masssssive Deitrus bloom. Like the rock and glass are turning brown! Nitrates are threw the roof which I think is contributing to this. BUT I cant do a water change cause it could hurt the cycle correct?? any thoughts on this would help |

You can definitely do a water change during the cycle if you want. The bacteria live in the rocks and the sand, not the water column.
Are you sure you don't mean Diatoms, because Detritus is fish poop. |

Cycling with live rock?
What are ammonia and nitrite? Yes, you can do a water change. They are diatoms. And will fade away slowly |

You need to wait until your NO2 drops before doing a water change. Nothing eats diatoms. They come from silicates and will go away on their own.

The diatoms are from the silicates in the sand. It's normal for a new tank. Once they burn through the silicates they will disappear. The first few months you will have all types of age as it's what you will often hear as the uglies.
