Ruby Red Scooter Blenny...
So I put my Ruby Red Scooter Blenny into my tank 2 days ago, and I haven't seen him since. Is this normal that he will hide out? Or should I be concerned? He's a bit smaller then the rest of his tank mates. I have 2 clowns, a royal gramma and a small blue tang, and a red fire shrimp in the tank already.
Any thoughts? Or should I send out search and rescue???

You should have seen him by now. Mine is in a 65 and I see him all day long. He only hid for 1 day. They need to forage all day for pods.

Does he hide out in the rocks at first until he gets used to the tank and his new mates? My fire shrimp hid all the time at first now he's all over the place. I'm hoping he's just hiding out. If he's dead I assume I would find him floating around in the current...

hope he comes out for you but if he's dead, chances are your cuc would have made him completely disappear in a very short time.

Gaddangit mine jumped too. I was not aware scooters would do so (that is, had never heard of it even in my petstore days). It wasn't even a first-night event, I had that fun little dude for a few weeks. I did, however, dig it out of my filter sock twice prior. I suppose that should have been a clue.
FWIW, mine hid out quite a bit during the daylight hours. I only saw it before the lights came on in the morning before work and early afternoon on the weekend. Or, of course, in a filter sock. |

I have a 90 gallon and first couple days he was hidden and the stayed around one rock... Then moved and now he is out all times .. But you probably need a good 30 min in front of the tank to see him . Turn off the lights ... Better

Our Ruby Red hid out for a couple days when we added him to our 65 gallon tank. Now that it's been a couple weeks we see him regularly but he is still pretty skittish and will hide if he's startled (mostly by us moving too quickly approaching or looking into the tank).
We did notice early on that he was checking out the surface near the back wall of the tank and wondered a bit if he was going to jump, but i haven't seen him back up there since and he's doing quite well in the tank. Hope you've found the little guy - they are a beautiful addition to the tank. |

I have had my Red Scooter for several months and rarely see him pick at the pods in my tank but almost always see him with a little searching. They are very skittish (at least mine is) and hide almost every time I approach the tank. They are definitely more comfortable with a lot of rockwork. If you don't have a lid, definitely get a DIY mesh one or make one yourself out of light diffuser panels. Cheap insurance IMO against losing any fish, particularly the ones you want to keep for a while.

These bastards are jumpers. Mine barely lasted 2 days and he had all the 20 gallon for himself with crap loads of hiding places and a lid that covered 90% of the tank.
