Skimmer suggestions for 65 gal
I have been cycling a 65 to put a pair of valentini puffers, pair of ocellaris clowns and maybe some soft corals and a shrimp/goby pair.
It has about 55lbs of LR and I have been running a canister filter while cycling but have been thinking about ditching after reading how they can be a pain. Would just a skimmer or a skimmer and a hob filter be better? I have been looking at the reef octopus bh1000 and aquamaxx hob-1 for skimmers. Would a skimmer rated for 75-100 gal be ok or should I be looking at something bigger? |

I'm not running a sump on this tank so I've been looking at HOB skimmers.

I have the same size tank with a sump. I am getting ready to cycle my tank in the next several days. I have the BH1000 ready to go....got it from a friend for free so I am gonna give it a try. He said it works really well so I would say you can't go wrong. Due to limited space down below...I think the HOB skimmer I s a good option for me right now. I will keep you posted on how it works out.

Those skimmers would be fine.
A HOB filter, like an Aquaclear, would be great for running carbon or GFO and water movement. |
