live rock from petco just cement... Take it back?
Just got some Thursday and realized last night when cleaning it that it is just cement. Did some research and that is correct.
Should I take it back? I've got 15 days from date of purchase. My only other option is dry rock. I just upgraded to a 29g with 2 hermits and 13lbs of live rock from a different store that is true rock. If I take this back I'll only have 13lbs in my 29g while I seed some dry rock. But that would also be cheaper. Opinions? |

If all you ha e is 2 hermits then you didnt need a lot of LR anyways. Id take it back just on the fact they A mislead you and B cement didnt as good as real rock.
Just put the dry rock in the tank, once you add some live stock it should seed fairly quickly. Just didnt add much at first, gotta give the bacteria time to spread |

if you already have some live rock (the real stuff) in your tank, just add the dry rock. the LR will seed it.
livestock doesn't do anything to seed a tank with bacteria.

Took it back and found out they now have a 0 day return on marine... It just went into effect so he let me have this one but good thing to know...
Also they do carry other rock that is true rock, but their aquacultured is cement. Where is good online to buy dry rock and how much can iadd at a time? I have 13lbs is a 29g tank right now but have another tank up that I can split it between if I need to. I figure I need another 20lbs in total? |

It's normally recommend to have 1 lb per gallon, but if don't plan much of a bio load less rock will work. You can try Marco rocks or Bulk Reef Supply for dry rock online.

I got my dry rock from reefcleaners.org and I'm very happy with it. They also have great customer service.

I never get anything from Petco. Unless I need a temporary powerhead, or cleaning tools or something like that, I don't get anything from them.

I'm buying more and more of my stuff online as well. It's not worth bothering with pet stores any more for salt water tanks. I just got a 5 gallon bucket of salt mix online that was cheaper then what petco sells it for and that was with shipping. It took less then a week to get it.
