drilling aqueon tanks from petco?

Petco has a dollar a gallon sale going. Looking to buy a couple 55 and make a sump and refugium out of separate tanks. Can the front glass be drilled?

They are no longer Aqueon, they are Tetra brand tanks, the build quality is substantially lower than the Aqueon/All Glass. However, I believe the only tempered pane on the 55g is the bottom and the side can be drilled. I actually just drilled one of the $1/g 20g tanks.

Not sure about now, but I remember reading that the 55 was the only tank that ALL panels were tempered. Would 40 breeders work? I do believe you can drill those tanks.

I have drilled many of PETCO's 40G Breeders with no problems. Last one was six months ago.

The Tetra 40 breeders are tempered on the bottom, but I drilled a bean animal overflow on a side pane recently with no issue.

I can confirm the 55 is all tempered. Went and got one. No 40 breeders left

I have collected several $1 sale tanks from Petco since last summer til now. (4) Aqueon 40g breeders and (10) 40g tetras. (2) Tetras broken down for scrap for c2c and baffles, (4) of the tetras are derimmed for sumps and the other (4) were drilled and have c2c for Bean Animals on back sides. So I have (4) drilled Aqueons and (4) drilled Tetras. Of the drilled tanks, I lost one Tetra. Glass cracked on the last tank and I only had 1.5 holes left to go. I was even using a drill press and used water cooling with berm. I replaced the tank the next day and it went just as smooth as the other (7).

Tetra tanks are 3/16" glass vs 1/4" so just avoid putting to much pressure on the glass and let the hole saw do the work.
