Dosing question
I have a question which I fear may seem stupid, but it is a question that has come up since I began researching dosing.
I know some people say to not begin dosing until it is needed and to only dose what is tested, but I see people posting their initial test results for Ca, for example, before dosing, and I am wondering how Ca measures in the water before dosing? Do salts, rock, and sand contribute to the calcium in the water before dosing? What suspends calcium in the water if it has not been physically added yet? As for as that goes I understand the process of testing and raising and maintaining levels, as well as types of dosing and pumps. I am just trying to gain a base knowledge of the chemistry and the relationships between Ca, Mg, KH that way it all makes sense on a deeper level further down the road. Please provide any essential info I may need regarding Ca and Mg |

Calcium come primarily from your salt mix. Various manufacturers have different calcium levels in their salt mix, but all contain calcium (and most of the other minerals found in natural saltwater). There are many good articles here:
