return pump suggestions..

hi guys,

i need a new return pump for my 180g tank.. now i used chinese rebranded dc10000 pump and was all ok until they burn

is 3rd pump that i put in my sump and cross the fingers that the last one work almost some months.. now i decide to take a good pump to change crappy one, what you suggest me?? i have limited budget at 5/700 $

my options now are :

Deltec e-flow 10 (my friend sell one half price brand new)

RD3 8000 ( must buy new at full price )

RD 16000 (i have one here free but is too powerful i think)

abyzz (too expensive )

new jet 8000 ( good italian pump but is over 140W)

sicce 5.0 ( too few liters/h )

You only need 3-5x DT turnover with your return pump. I have a Laguna 1500 that is dialed back about 50% for my 180. You can supplement water movement with a closed loop or circulation pumps

Look into the Fluval SP4 and SP6. Great pump with Askoll motor block. All the great things of the Laguna but added better bearings, a base plate and barbed fittings.

If it were me, I'd be hard pressed not to use that RD16000. It's rated at 4200GPH/16,000LPH but with head pressure that will drop off quickly. Add in some reactors and a gate valve and you'd probably have comfortable flow. If you read up on the Chinese DC pumps, you will find countless horror stories about power supply and controller failures. As such, I wouldn't even consider one of those on my tank, especially in a critical function such as a return pump but that is just me. I will absolutely not cut corners with my tank let alone use suspect equipment. If I were buying and based in Italy, it would be real simple. I'd buy the RD3 in a heart beat but again, with the kind of money and livestock I have invested in my system, I will not cut corners nor will I run cheap or suspect equipment on my system.

I was reluctant on getting the fluval pump. I was looking into Sicce and Waterblasters. I ended up going with a Fluval SP4. and i could not be happier. It is dead silent and i mean dead silent. And it has way more flow that i thought it would for my head height. I've got it dialed back and running it at about 75% and it's more than plenty of flow for my 210 and feeding my refugium. GREAT pump so far

My first choice would be Abyzz but the Deltec is a close second and probably the best price/performance.
please keep us up to date with your new purchase.

+1 RD Abyzz Deltec etc...only problem is not all of us can afford that type of investment. So, I have a Waveline.

Why is 900gph too little for a 180gal? That's 5x turnover; you only need 3-4x.

Im running about 4x on my 210 gal and it's perfect.
