Equipment Selection

I am trying to learn all that I can prior to me jumping into buying things and settling up my tank. I have been lurking daily thru many threads since joining covering several different topics and I am enjoying the research. I have been putting together a list of items that can be part of a SW system such as: fish, corals, reactors, skimmers, lights, powerheads, tank management system, etc. to research.

This list is based on brands and models in which I will do more elaborate research on once I tally up all the recommendations I see in all the threads I visit. My question today is in regards to skimmers. Everyone obviously has there opinion about this or that but I am trying to figure out in all the skimmer threads I have read thru, no one is really mentioning the Lifereef Skimmers. I only see it mentioned in the Lifereef club thread. The design is simple and sounds promising. The downside I see is that they are very pricey imo, the waiting time to receive it is high and half the parts I can get online or purchase at Home Depot/Lowes (which is why I think its overpriced). Is the latter part the reason why no one is recommending this skimmer besides current owners.
