Berlin method question

Hey all, I have a 75 gallon that has been up for 2 months now and doing well. I have the sock, 2 heaters (backup) and 120 Eshopps protein skimmer in sump, along with the sponge that goes before the last chamber, where the return pump is.

I read a lot of reefers were not using the sock due to hassle of cleaning and being a trap for the bad stuff, along with removing good things for the tank that can feed your corals, along with pods, which I want! I removed it a few weeks ago and things are fine. Now I'm thinking of removing the sponge that is before the final chamber. I don't want the sponge to prevent any pods from getting back into the tank.

So, would my 2-chamber sump be ok with just some live rock and protein skimmer? There is of course live sand and live rock in the DT as well.

Thanks!
Steve
