ATO that will fit under stand?
Need some help and ideas ladies and gents...
I have a 55g mixed reef, and under my tank inside my stand I have a 7.5 wet/dry converted to sump, and I have a little space on both sides of the wet dry, but my plumbing is cut to fit so I'd rather keep it how I have it and just introduce the ATO with what space I do have left.. Next to the wet/dry on either side I have spaces that are about 12x11x18 and want to fit an ATO in there.. I don't mind if it's only 1g or if it's some kind of retro, I just want an ATO in there and want one asap lol.. I looked into several DIY but can't tell what would be my best bet so I'm leaving it up you guys to help me construct something that's not to hard on the wallet but is also very beneficial and as fail proof as possible.. Thanks! |

I ran this on my last tank with an aqualifter pump and never had a problem. fairly simple to put together for a beginner.
http://www.aquahub.com/store/product26.html Note the aqualifter does NOT go in the water. Then just any container you can fit under there.

You could make it out of acrylic and it would be exact to your space requirements. I've got some extra laying around and you are only a bit south of me. Let me know if this is something you would be interested in.
The actual ATO you use is up to you though.

Hmm that sounds interesting with the acrylic.. I've never constructed anything from acrylic but it seems pretty straight forward..!

I built mine out acrylic that was custom to the size I had available. Another option would be one of the space saver jugs BRS has for dosing. Both the Tunze and autotopoff ato's work really good. I have one on my DT and one on my frag tank. The Tunze comes with the pump but you have to buy a seprate pump for the autotopoff but you don't need a very large or expensive pump.

I found this at Target, its only 2.5 gal but that gets me 2 days of top off and I check the tank daily so easy to add RODI every other day. when I need to go longer I add 5g buckets (linked) and have been away from tank for 10days this past spring.

dude that is a sickkk setup..! I wish I could do all that in my 3rd floor apartment building lol, I'm stuck with minimal options, wahhh..! But one of those smaller 2.5g buckets looks like it will do fine for me, and that $39.99 kit looks pretty solid as well.. I've read a lot of DIY's and some people piece together a kit using a Bubble Box from Walmart and some Radioshack items, but I'm not sure if I'm feeling that engineer-like right now haha..

I threw this together this morning. Its far from my best work, but its free. I've just to route down the edges and it should be done after it cures a bit more. Let me know if you are interested in it. 11x11x13 and holds just over 6 gallons.

How about one of the Tunze Osmolators? Either the full size or nano version. A number of hydroponic suppliers offer square and rectangular containers for the water. That'd keep algae from growing in it. Tunze has one too but I've never seen anyone selling it.
