ID Please: Monti eating Nudi?

I think I have a monti eating nudi on my red digi. I have already sucked the little devil out and used a tooth brush around the base of the digi. My monti caps look OK. Any advise on how to further deal with this?

Thanks,
Paul

Keep an eye, might consider QT'ing all montis and do dips every 2-3 days to catch any new ones as they hatch and before they can lay new ones. Once you get them all off the monti's you have keep them in the QT for at least a month to make sure you starve out any remaining nudis in your DT.

I am fighting these right now, and have been for 6 weeks or so. Keep in mind that none of the dips kill them, but they may make the adults release their grip on the coral. So dipping every 2-3 days, even if you do not see any, is warranted.

Monti caps are their favourite meal, and this is where they are usually found first. They are also the hardest to fight on monti caps due to their growth pattern. In my case, I have chucked almost all my monti cap frags to reduce the fronts of the war and have drawn a line in the sand at my favourite plating monti and orange setosa.

Techniques that I have found helpful are:
  • fragging the uninfected part and disposing of the bare skeleton (especially frag plugs)
  • Covering the newly bare skeleton with crazy glue to entomb the eggs which can be very hard to see

I have also added 3 more peppermint shrimp which are supposed nudi predators, too early to tell if that helps yet. If you have the ability to QT, by all means, separate the unaffected corals from the infected.

Dennis
