How Does Flow Interfer With Red Slime Growth?

"Increasing flow" is the second most recommended red slime fighting tactic after "reduce nutrients". How exactly does more flow prevent or minimize red slime growth? I would appreciate all the ideas you care to supply.

Thanks!

Flow keeps it from attaching to surfaces.

Do you think it prevents the cyanobacteria from settling onto the surface or the red slime mat from forming?

Flow keeps detritus from settling in one place, cyano thrives on the detritus.
