Adding refugium to existing sump?

I'm looking to add a 10 gallon refugium to my existing sump and planned to do as most and have it above the sump but below my DT so it can gravity feed into the sump. Question I have it I would be running it off my return pump manifold so I can slow the flow way down but was more concerned about redundancy for overflows. If for some reason the return was choked or plugged my pump would continue adding water till the tank overflowed. I could alway add a float switch and hook it to my apex but it would need to turn off the main pump to stop the flow which wouldn't be a good option. Any other ideas?

Jeff

Just like with your DT, if the overflow gets choked, the return section of the sump should drop and cut off water to the return pump. You will have to make sure the new refuge will hold enough water to make the return pump run out of water...

That would be a pain as I would have to have either a large refugium or barely fill it. As the volume in my sump is not large but large enough to not run out of water very quickly. And the next issue would be as water would drop the ATO will continue to fill it.
