If u r running an ATS are u still running GFO?
So if you are running an ATS are you still running gfo? that would be another reason to build an ATS.

Nope. I built the scrubber to try and get away from GFO.

I had 3 algae types that we're bugging me; bryopsis, hair algae and bubble algae. I used tech M to get rid of bryopsis, and installed the ATS when the Magnesium levels came back down. Progress is good, but it's not fast. The biggest thing I've noticed is after manual removal, the hair algae and bubble algae have not been coming back. I'm only about 2 months into an established screen.

I would be curious to hear how well the scrubbers work against gfo. This would be a great cost savings situation for most. |

High mag levels kill bryopsis but mother hair algae.
My thoughts too if i can run the ATS and not have to change gfo every two weeks like i have then it might be the better choice. What design did u go with for your ATS? |

My scrubber is about 7 weeks old now and I stopped gfo entirely the day I started the scrubber (I never had an algae issue when I started the ats so I figured the lapse in gfo wouldn't bother anything).
I don't do water changes. My tank is 240ish total water volume with 20 fish in mixed reef. NO3 = zero PO4 = 0.04 It seems the ats pulls NO3 much better than PO4. I might run a little gfo here shortly if I don't see a drop past the 0.04 as I would like to cut that number in half... Loving the ats though. Super quiet vertical design that's about as easy to clean as the skimmer cup. I have been cleaning mine once every 10 days or so. Running four 23w CFL 2700k bulbs (2 bulbs on each side) for 16 hours a day.
