Remote controlled outlet plug that comes on after power outtage?
I got some el-cheapo remote controlled outlet plugs from Menards the other day to make turning off a few reactors etc easy by the push of a button.
I then discovered that after a power outage they don't automatically turn back on.. Anyone use any that DO turn back on automatically after a power outage? |

I can't be 100% sure, but I have one of these installed in our bedroom to remotely control a floor lamp in the corner. I though I recall the lamp turning back on after a power outtage as it woke us up at night to deliver the good news.
It also has one static outlet that always has power, so I'm assuming it must use a mechanical or magnetic feature to (dis)engage the power (I also hear a click when turning it on an off). So that also leads me to believe it would return to on after an outage. I also know I paid a lot less than the $50 they are charging on Amazon. If you're interested, I can try flipping the breaker when I get home in order to check for you. EDIT: I just checked, and I ordered it for $25 back in February from Amazon. |

Please let us know Fade2! I have the ones similar to Bryopsis and only use them on my QT tanks for the power heads (turn them off during feeding sometimes). They definitely do not come back on after a power outage as I was reminded last night when I got home.

I didn't check last night since I hadn't heard from ya, but I'll give it a try tonight when I get home from work.

What you are looking for is more complex than most power strips are able to do. They are either always on or always off depending on which way the button or switch is engaged. You either need something with programmable logic built in to the circuitry or a crude relay system. I design many systems like this for industrial type applications, but can't think of one suitable for residential use. At the cost levels for more robust systems, a full aquarium controller would be cheaper.
