Plumbing the tank help
I have Oceanic 120 and it came with Mega flows system that you have to use hoses. All four holes are 1 3/4 inch drilled from factory in overflows.
The one bulkhead is cracked and need to know as if I go with 1 inch bulkheads that are for 1 3/4 holes so I can change ever thing to pvc? I seen that you make new Standpipe drains that look like the megs flows. Now the bulkheads are as I said 1 inch ID for to make stand pipes need to go to 1 inch to 1 1/4 inch pipe or can I stay and make it all 1 inch? Also under the tank to the sump the drain pipe can it be 1 inch or get fitting and up to 1 1/4 to the sump? |

The 1 3/4" are for 1" schedule 40 bulkheads. You can run everything in PVC, soft plumbing, or however you want to do it.
For the stand pipes they can stay 1", you do not have to take them up to 1 1/4". |

Same situation there, you do not need to upsize it to 1 1/4", you can stay with 1" all the way down.

I did not know if it had to be the same because I have hose type setup from the tank factory and need to change to pvc. I see members but ball valves for drains and returns is that a good idea? |

Having a ball valve on the return is nice so you can throttle the pump back just a little if needed. I do not suggest having a valve on the drain line, unless you're running a BeanAnimal overflow or something similar.

Consider running your return line w/ flexible silicon tubing. That will cut down on vibration noise from your pump. And gentle slow tubing bends are better than acute pvc bends.
I'd readup on on different types of drain setups. If you've not been around a 120 gallon aquarium with an overflow running, the deafening sound of giant toilet flushes and gurgling sound of the last of a milkshake will surely pi****off the housemates. Durso and "bean animal" are the two things to search for. Personally, I will never run another tank without a bean animal drain setup. |
