QT - prophylactic treatment?

So when utilizing a QT, should one treat on a prophylactic basis (for common diseases) or just observe and treat if signs or symptoms develop?

And what is the standard time for keeping fish in QT prior to transferring to the DT?

Some people use the Tank Transfer method for Ich, while others Prophylactically treat their fish (Freshwater Dips).

It's a matter of choice, if you ask me. I go with the Freshwater Dip, as it's much easier to do. Tank Transfer is more work, and requires extra tanks.

To each their own. Either way - you still need to observe back in the QT after either method.

4-6 weeks is a good time frame. 30 days minimum.

There are quite a few of us that do TT in conjunction with prazi then observe for 30 days after. I only do FW dips to confirm flukes.

is this a temp or permanent QT tank with a bio filter? that matters a lot for dosing meds.

for ick, it all depends on your tolerance for risk, if not going to use cuprimine/copper, longer is better

I don't. Many treatments are antagonistic to each other. If you're treating with copper for, say, the suspicion of ich, and your fish turns up with a bacterial infection instead, first you've weakened your fish by exposing him to a poison (copper) and then the infection runs rampant while you're trying to clear out the copper so you can use the antibiotic you need for the infection.
