ozone question

I want to add ozone to my 130gal rimless aquarium, I currently have a 40 watt aqua ultraviolet uv sterilizer, and saw that they also make a uv/ozone combo unit, but you cannot turn the ozone off and on independently, so ozone runs 24/7 with uv, I found a unit made by ultrazone (formerly ultralife) and they produce a 40 uv/ozone combo unit with independent control of the ozone, so I can use my controller to control the ozone output, but I can't find any reviews or any YouTube videos, etc.does anyone know if these are durable units, and if not would it be find to get the aqua ultraviolet version and just run ozone all the time, any info appreciated

If you can adjust the amount of ozone, you can run it all the time. Just keep an eye on your ORP readings. You could still have your controller shut the whole unit down if the ORP gets too high, as a safety. Then you can make any adjustments you need to before turning it back on again.

You can't adjust it on the aqua ultraviolet unit, and they said setting it to shut the entire unit on and off will drastically shorten the life of the bulb

Im not talking about on/off daily, just in extreme circumstances.
But you can't adjust the level of ozone??? That sucks.

I know, that's why I wanted to see if I could find some info on the ultrazone dual unit, there's you can control, they have them in stock, but I know first hand aqua ultraviolet quality, and I don't know if this unit is cheaply made or not

If I am not mistaken, that Aqua UV unit is not designed for salt water aquarium applications. Thus it's lack of controllability. Ozone units for marine aquarium use are designed to be turned on and off to manage ORP levels. Like you, I agree that AquaUV is know for great quality but their ozone units are not known in the marine aquarium industry and typically ozone and UV are run separately in the aquarium. While they may be some perceived benefit to the combination product, that is not something you see used in our fish tanks.

If you really want to run ozone on your system, I'd suggest getting something like an Ozotech generator and either running it through a skimmer with the effluent filtered through carbon or better yet, a dedicated ozone reactor that is connected directly to a carbon reactor. Those are the traditional methods for ozone use in aquaria.

Curiously, what is your ORP presently?
