Uneven lighting for effect?

Has anyone used different lights, to create coral zones. I'm thinking of lower lighting on the edges of a 75g, with a much brighter led zone off centered using the rules of 3rds. Just curious if anyone has done this. This would allow an area for sps, while tapering down for lower light corals. It could also create a cave like look.
