Skimmer overflow problem
Every so often the skimmer starts bubbling like crazy. The tank conditions haven't changed, but I am having a hair algae outbreak. The day before this picture almost the entire area on top of the sump was covered in foam.

I think you need to raise the skimmer, maybe just half an inch.
Are you running carbon?

My Aquamaxx was doing this for some time, it'd just randomly overflow it's cup, something it's NOT supposed to do. I finally got fed up with it, took it out, ripped it apart, inspected everything. I found that the air line from the air diffuser into the pump was plugged with salt. Every so often it'd break down, air would rush through and cause it to overflow. Cleaned it, reassembled it and it's good to go.
