ATI Sunpower ac adapter overheating

I've had my 6x36 sunpower for three weeks or so and its been running great. Today i disconnected everything to do a little maintenance and i noticed a burning smell. I checked everything and found the ac adapter for the sunpower fans was piping hot. Any reason why it would do this? It hasnt been happening until i plugged everything back in. I noticed the voltage was set to 12, which it has been the whole time, but just read online they should run at 9. Any ideas? I dont want to burn anything out.
