Testing for ammonia question.
I placed two cocktail shrimp in my tank on Christmas day to start my cycle. When should ammonia start showing up on my test kits. The tank is a 110 with about 30 gallons extra in the sump and refugium. I'm using Salifert test kits and only seem to get cloudy/milky colored test results. Test kits say they expire in 2016.
Thanks |

It partly depends on how much rock is in your tank, & whether it's live rock or just dead base rock. Give it a week then test again.

So the color of the test doesn't match any numbers? If so it may be off the charts. )

Thanks, I have about 120 pounds of cured "live" rock from my LFS and about 110 pounds of dry sand. I killed three Aiptasia that I found. Started with one. I saw some what appeared to be small dead shrimp like creatures floating around here and there. Not many though. I'll keep checking.
Fraggled I really liked your comment. |
