New (to me) 120g/sump. Question about sump
I received this sump when I picked up a 120 gallon. All they gave me was a RiO 3100 return pump and the sump, I have bought some filter for the bubble trap.
I want to run this skimmer NB150 in the sump. Does anyone see any issues with this skimmer in this sump? Also, I was looking at filter socks on brs, looking at the attachment on the sump, are their specific ones I need to get to work with this sump? Any other suggestions you guys have, I would appreciate. Also, I was thinking two 75w heaters would be enough for this size aquarium. Anyone have comments on that? |

Should have no problem with that skimmer. Add a filter sock on the inlet on the circular bracket(I like them some don't) Just measure it, it will be 4 or 7 inch and the 12-14" length. The rio 3100 might be a bit small but may be ok. The 75 watt heaters may be too small. I run 2x300 watt on my 120 but I am in the northern states.

I agree on the heaters. I run a 150 in my 29 with the thinking that better for it to not work hard at all vs. a small heater working harder. Less chance to wear it out. But I am no electrician so I could be wrong.

tbh I was thinking a 300w to begin with and then I seen someone posted they used two 75w on their 120. I live in sc so not quite as cold and I keep it 72 inside most of the time. I think I will go with the larger heaters.

Also, I'm thinking about taking the RIO 3100 and use it as a RO circulation pump for in a storage container and buying a new pump. Any suggestions on what pump to fit this enclosure and be sufficient

I pretty much had the exact same setup only my 120 was dual overflow. I have the exact same skimmer and i had that exact same sump for a little over a year as well but just got rid of it for an upgrade. That sump was one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I recently upgraded to the eshopps R-300 refugium and it was a great improvement and twice the size. Once you get that skimmer in the sump, there will be no room for anything else. There was always micro bubble in my tank as that bubble trap with a sponge did nothing. I would get bigger heaters as well. I have 2x150w heaters in mine and they work overtime for sure. The return pump you have should be ok. I have a quiteone 5000 for mine and it does just fine and its really quiet.
